The Portraits
Signature portraits, and the moments in between.
Where the photographs happen at Caoura Cliffs — 1,100 acres of cliff edge, gum forest, open paddock and glass, and never anyone else in frame.
The locations
The whole property is the portrait session.
Couples always ask the same question: where do the photos happen? The honest answer is everywhere — but over the years, a handful of places on the property have earned their reputation, each at its own hour of the day.
This is the walk we take photographers on before every wedding — from the Homestead's quiet morning light to the last lantern-lit frame after dark. Exclusive use means every one of these places is yours alone, all day.

Morning · The Homestead
Where the day wakes up.
Preparation photos with room to breathe: the verandah, the barn door, the pool terrace, your people drifting between coffee and calm. The Homestead's timber and stone give the morning its texture.
If you're planning a first look, the garden and the barn door are made for it — private, softly lit, and steps from where you're getting ready.
- Light · soft morning
- Best for · preparation & first look

Midday · The gums & farm tracks
Dappled light, and a 1968 Rolls-Royce.
The farm track winds through stands of old eucalypts — shade and filtered light at any hour, which makes the gums the property's most forgiving location and a favourite for bridal parties.
The venue's own Rolls-Royce comes along for the ride: vintage chrome against bark and dust, on its way to the cliffs.
- Light · dappled, all day
- Best for · bridal party & the drive

Afternoon · The cliff edge
The signature frame.
Four and a half kilometres of escarpment means the famous shot isn't one spot — it's a dozen, and your photographer can chase the angle without ever leaving your land.
Straight after the vows, while your guests drift to canapés, the cliff edge is where the just-married portraits happen — the gorge falling away beneath you, timed to the turning light.
- Light · golden afternoon
- Best for · just-married portraits

Golden hour · The open paddocks
Big sky, wide country.
Rolling paddock in every direction and nothing man-made in frame — at golden hour the grass goes amber and the shadows run long.
And when the weather turns, it turns cinematic: storm light over the escarpment, mist lifting out of the gorge. Some of the property's most extraordinary photographs happened on the days that didn't go to plan.
- Light · golden hour & weather
- Best for · couple portraits

Dusk · The Pavilion glass
Silhouettes on glass.
As the sun drops behind the escarpment, the Pavilion's floor-to-ceiling glass becomes a mirror for the sky — silhouettes, reflections, and the terrace glowing gold.
It's the classic sneak-away: five minutes out of the reception while the room is lit and the sky is on fire.
- Light · sunset & reflections
- Best for · the reception sneak-away

Night · The last frame
Lanterns, firelight, and the dark beyond.
Out here there are no streetlights — just the Pavilion's lantern-lit windows, the fire, and a night sky you simply don't get closer to Sydney.
The final portrait of the night is usually the quietest: the two of you outside the glow, the party warm behind the glass.
- Light · lantern & firelight
- Best for · night portraits

“The land never gives the same light twice. No two Caoura galleries look alike.”
