Our Story

A love letter to Australia's untamed beauty.

How a rundown farm above the Shoalhaven gorge became Caoura Cliffs — and why it remains, first and foremost, a family property.

About us

Where luxury and the rugged charm of the Australian bush come together.

Caoura Cliffs is brought to life by owners Kathryn and David. Their vision: a space where refined comfort and the wild Australian landscape exist in perfect harmony.

Kathryn's eye for timeless design and David's passion for the landscape and innovative technologies have shaped every element of the property — a place that celebrates nature while offering refined comforts for couples and their loved ones to make memories lasting a lifetime.

Tallong · The land

The Land of the Big Apple.

Set across 1,100 acres overlooking the Shoalhaven gorge, Caoura Cliffs sits within the historic Tallong district — a landscape shaped by generations of farming families. Once renowned as “The Land of the Big Apple”, the region was famous for its award-winning orchards, fertile soils and pioneering spirit.

The orchards have largely disappeared, but the area's agricultural heritage, natural beauty and sense of connection to the land remain as strong as ever. It's this country that the Caoura Cliffs story grows from.

The beginning

Where others saw a derelict farm.

When David and Kathryn first arrived at the property fifteen years ago, it was a very different place. The farm had fallen into disrepair — overgrown paddocks, ageing infrastructure and countless projects waiting to be tackled. Friends and family thought they were completely crazy for taking it on.

But where others saw a derelict farm, they saw something special: a place where their family could escape, spend time together and create lasting memories. They fell in love with the scale of the landscape, the privacy, and the extraordinary views stretching across the Shoalhaven gorge.

A labour of love

Restored by hand, year by year.

Over the years, Caoura Cliffs became a true labour of love. Together they restored pastures, cleared land, renovated the original homestead and carefully enhanced the property while preserving its natural beauty. A swimming pool was added, countless family gatherings were shared, and their children grew up exploring the paddocks, bushland and cliffs that make the property so unique today.

The farm became much more than a weekend retreat — it became the backdrop to family milestones, celebrations and unforgettable moments. Every corner of the property holds a story, and reflects the care, dedication and vision invested over more than a decade.

2019

Then the story came full circle.

In 2019, David and Kathryn chose to marry on the cliffs overlooking the Shoalhaven gorge, surrounded by family, friends and the extraordinary landscape they had spent years restoring. It was everything they had hoped for — intimate, relaxed, breathtakingly beautiful and deeply personal.

Throughout the weekend, guests couldn't stop talking about the property. Many said it was unlike anywhere they had ever visited, and encouraged them to share it with other couples. Those conversations planted the seed for what Caoura Cliffs has become today.
